Wicked premiered on Broadway in 2003. Since then, the musical has been honored with 35 awards, including a Grammy and 3 Tony Awards. Declared "the best stage musical of the decade" by the Entertainment Weekly, and "a cultural event" by Variety, Wicked tells the story of the Witches of Oz before the arrival of Dorothy and Toto. Based on the famous novel by Gregory Maguire, this theatrical version tells the story of two unusual friends, Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, the Good Witch.

Why Should I See It?

Wicked is the most successful musical of recent times. Visually stunning, this musical will take you on an enduring journey into fantasy, love and friendship.

The Story

Wicked is the story of two friends who are completely different from one another, and who face off for the love of one man: prince Fiyero. Elphaba is a girl who was born with emerald green skin. She is smart, passionate and misunderstood. Glinda, the Good Witch, is a rich, whimsical and very popular girl. In her pursuit for love, Elphaba’s good intentions are misunderstood to such a degree that she is made out to be dangerous and evil. The musical recounts the events of Elphaba’s life and how she slowly evolves into the Wicked Witch of the West.

Wicked is a story with many lessons about the value of love and trust. But above all, it is a great lesson about friendship that will thrill children and adults alike. "It all depends on how you’d like to see things," says Gregory Maguire. "So forget the extremes of bad and good and open yourself up to the idea of a gray area, because everyone keeps an ace up their sleeve…" Wicked is a wonderful and tender work with direct messages to the heart, as well as an invitation to a magical world with the Wizard of Oz himself. It’s definitely an unforgettable theater experience.

Audience Type

Wicked is a musical designed to be enjoyed by the entire family. But, young children may be frightened by the flying monkeys, some allusions to violence off stage, or the death of characters. However, children eight years old and over will be delighted with the production.
