Are New Yorkers friendly or not?

We all have preconceived ideas of New Yorkers, and some people who go to New York for the first time may have some apprehension about the natives’ way of being.
But are they as stressed, grumpy and rude as we think?

How are you doing today?

This is the question you will be asked the most during your stay in New York.
New Yorkers are not only smiling and polite, they are also extremely helpful and they always take time to help you, even if you don’t ask them anything!
It is very common for someone to offer their help to a tourist if one seems lost, by looking intensely at a map for example or simply by standing at the corner of a street 😉
Most New Yorkers don’t understand why they have such a bad reputation because they will all explain to you that they are very happy to help people who come to visit their beautiful city. They are indeed very proud of it but not chauvinistic. They are also willing to have a few words with you because they are interested to know where you come from and if it’s your first visit in New York.
Try the experience when you’re there: stop someone in the street and ask for some information. No doubt the person will smile at you and reply “Of course! Where do you want to go?”
The general atmosphere of the city will also surprise you. It is quite relaxed, even in the busiest streets, you won’t feel any tension or animosity. Of course, some sidewalks are very crowded in certain areas of Manhattan but people walk without bumping into each others and you will not hear anyone complaining behind you because you don’t walk fast enough or because you don’t seem to know where you’re going.

Spread the word, this is what you will find when you visit New York!

We are very far away from the myth of the noisy and chaotic New York. Of course, I am not saying the contrary, there is a lot going on. For example, there is a considerable amount of street vendors selling all kinds of tickets. You will be held by many of them asking if you are interested in buying tickets for comedy clubs, bus tours and all kind of things, but I strongly recommend you not to waitto be in New York. Buy your tickets for tours and, particularly, for Broadway shows as last minute tickets won’t give you good seats.  Here you can buy your tickets online for Broadway musicals with great discounts and with the best seats. It is also recommended to buy your tickets in advance for special tours with limited availability such as the Harlem & Gospel tourthis visit is fantastic and very popular so don’t miss it!

Finally, I would add that I promised to my friends in New York to try to bury the myth of rude and grumpy New Yorkers so, please, spread the word and let me know what you think of them!
