Best Burgers In New York

Crunchy, tasty, with extra cheese (or without) and super-sized. Very, very super-sized. You can get any kind of hamburger you want in the city that never sleeps. Here are some of our picks for hamburger joints (or joints that happen to serve hamburgers). Don’t miss this list of the best hamburgers in New York and enjoy every singe bite!

Burger Joint (Inside Le Parker Meridien Hotel)

Hidden away inside the lobby of the upscale Parker Meridien Hotel, Burger Joint serves some of the best hamburgers in the city. Unfortunately this is no secret, so be prepared for long lines. Still, the juicy burgers and customized approach are worth it – if you can get a table.

Corner Bistro

Corner Bistro is always at or near the top of any NYC burger ranking. The burgers don’t look like much, but just taste one and you will understand –  there’s just no explaining it. The original West Village location can get pretty busy, but the Long Island City location is less crowded.

Shake Shack

Celebrity Chef Danny Meyer opened his first Shake Shack in 2004. Since then, so many locations have opened up, it’s hard to keep track. On last count there are 7 in New York, 11 in the US outside of the city, and 7 outside of the US. The original location inside Madison Park is the most charming and beautiful, but make no mistake, the crowds are there for  the burgers. Shake Shack also sells custards and wines, making it more of an upscale European-style fast food experience than anything else.

5 Guys

Though not unique to New York, this chain offers a hamburger that can hold its own against any top burger in the city. Delicious patties with sweet and “eggy” buns, free peanuts while you wait, and a large number of topping options have earned the Virginia-based chain top ratings by Zagat and over 1000 locations in the US – with another 1500 more coming.

Five Napkin Burger

The “5 Napkin Burger” is 10 ounces of fresh ground beef topped with Gruyere cheese, caramelized onions and rosemary aioli. It began as an item on the menu of the Upper West Side’s Nice Matin, but became so popular that  the owners created an entire restaurant franchise from it. Five Napkin Burger also offers six other burgers, fries and onion rings, salads, sushi and much much more – all delicious.
