WHY SHOULD I SEE IT?
The Phantom of the Opera brings up a violent mix of emotions. Love, fear and madness take the audience through an extreme experience. A legendary score allows the theatergoer to feel every mood; the stage and lighting transport the viewer back to the majestic Paris Opera of the late 19th century. As the story pushes beyond the limits of the stage, music, passion and drama serve as the backdrop for an unforgettable night of theater.
THE STORY
The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a mysterious composer living in the subterranean passages of the Paris Opera. Away from the exterior world, the phantom remains hidden in the shadows because of a physical deformity he fears will not be accepted by society. Overwhelmed by loneliness, he spends his hours composing operas for the beautiful Christine, a young soprano in the Opera. Her voice and beauty captivates the obsessed phantom, who then tries to make Christine into the Opera’s big star. The story increases in intensity as a wealthy young Viscount courts Christine. The attraction Christine feels for this man unleashes the wrath of the Phantom.
The musical then takes on dramatic intensity marked by passion and jealousy. The Phantom of the Opera is a story of love, obsession and mystery. It is a truly unforgettable experience.
AUDIENCE TYPE
The Phantom of the Opera is suitable for all ages. However, the Phantom could of course frighten younger children.
