WHY SHOULD I SEE IT?
Mamma Mia!, now considered a Broadway classic complete with beautiful costumes and state of the art sound quality, is one of the most enjoyable musicals running. This thoroughly upbeat musical brings back the timeless songs of ABBA in a format that gives the story a touch of magic and leaves theatergoers feeling uplifted.
Mamma Mia! tells the story of 20 year old Sophie, who lives on a Greek island with her mother Donna. Donna, an unconventional woman, owns a small hotel on the island. Proud of having raised her daughter alone, she has never revealed the identity of Sophie’s father. With her wedding quickly approaching, however, Sophie is determined to find her father, so he can walk her down the aisle.
She impulsively invites three potential candidates to her wedding. As time runs out, Sophie quickly tries to determine which man is her father, setting the stage for emotional reunions, new romances, and the revival of lost love.
The story of this mother and daughter is conveyed with a clever script and the catchy tunes of ABBA. Capturing the audience from the first moments, it maintains its charm and doesn’t let go until the production’s phenomenal final moments.
Mamma Mia! is suitable for the entire family. The fast pace of the songs and the colorful costumes will capture young hearts as well as the "young at heart". The light-hearted and comical tone of this musical makes it highly recommended for families.
Children under 4 are not permitted in the Broadhurst Theatre. Each person attending Mamma Mia Broadway must have a ticket, regardless of age.
